Capture the Essence of Rumi: A Call to Second Life Photographers

Get ready to experience the enchantment of words and the depth of the soul at the Poetic Moon Sim, a mesmerizing Second Life area inspired by the famous Persian poet, Jalaluddin Rumi.

Rumi was and is a giant in the world of literature and spirituality, breaking through the limits of language and religion. He was a poet who turned life’s moments into stunning poetry and a spiritual guide whose teachings still touch hearts today. Rumi’s work explores the ups and downs of human life, focusing on love, loss, faith, and the quest for purpose.

Welcome to the Poetic Moon

Opening on January 1st and running until January 19th, the Poetic Moon Sim invites you on a special creative journey. Dive into a beautiful, poetic world inspired by Rumi’s verses. Let the inspiring surroundings ignite your creativity and motivate you to…

Anu Papp, the curator of Poetic Moon, invites us to delve deeper with her heartfelt message:

“Poetic Moon, a Second Life region dedicated to Persian poet, Rumi.

Rumi helps answer the questions that bewilder us. He dresses experiences with words. He makes it easier for us to understand matters of the heart, the mind, and the soul.

He is a poet. But he is also a significant spiritual teacher.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase “each other”
doesn’t make any sense.
The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don’t go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don’t go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.

Don’t go back to sleep.

Thanks to Rumi, whenever I find myself quick to judge or label, I take a moment, create space in my thoughts and remember to head to that field. That is where I become one with everything and everyone.

Because when I see the world as separate, I only limit my own potential.

Poetic Moon will be open for creative public viewing from January 1 – 19th. I encourage photos and with each photo, I ask that you link it with a Rumi quote or poem.

As Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said: “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

In loving memory,
Anu
Curator, Poetic Moon”

This magical experience is made possible by a passionate team:

Sim Designer: Terry Fotherington
Video: Sabina Valeska

Event Information:
Date: Sunday, December 22nd, 2024
Time: 1 PM – 3 PM SLT

Place: Artsville Galleries Area
Music by: DJ Frank Atisso

Artsville, known for its creativity, innovation, and outstanding art in Second Life, is closing its current chapter. In December, join us for a special event honoring its history, guided by Jerzzie Reece-Redstar. The exhibit, called “One Last Look,” is not just a display; it’s a meaningful goodbye to a place that has greatly influenced art in our virtual community.

In “One Last Look,” Jerzzie Reece-Redstar shows a group of powerful photos that show the heart of Artsville. Every picture gives a different view, showing how Artsville has grown, stayed creative, and become a special place for artists. This display is not just beautiful to look at, but also tells a story with bright colors, careful lighting, and Jerzzie’s skilled work.

Jerzzie says about the collection, “These photos honor the special way Artsville has helped the Second Life art world. Each one shows how the gallery has changed and become better, making a big difference in the art world.” Since she will stop being part of Artsville in January 2025, this display is both a goodbye and a way to remember her important role in this special place.

Jerzzie Reece-Redstar is not only an artist but also a storyteller. Known for her virtual photography, she combines bright colors, interesting textures, and dreamy lighting to make pictures that touch people’s hearts. Her work often talks about identity, beauty, and human experiences, making it appealing to many people, even outside the virtual world.

As a co-owner of Artsville Galleries, Jerzzie has supported many artistic projects, helping to create a place where creativity flourishes. Besides her work at Artsville, she has also done important work for social causes, leading the “We Orange the World Second Life” project. This project raises awareness about issues like violence against women and celebrates International Women’s Day within the Second Life community.

Maloe Vansant: Framed Women Between Heaven and Earth

Souland Gallery was pleased to declare its new era of artistic exploration on December 12th presenting a magnificent show of the work of the inimitable Maloe Vansant called Framed Women Between Heaven and Earth.

monet child

Maloe has been in Second Life for 17 years, turning the site into her artwork and narration platform. She has been an artist since 2007 and is now one of the most talented photographer capable of telling stories and emotions with a single frame.

These are not just images, but work by a talented photographer who captures the light, darkness, and colors of life, as if it were music. Her work reflects moments; she paints joy, sorrow, love and longing and challenges the audience to get lost in them. Maloe’s work challenges an identity in which each piece looks as if it is caught between the terrestrial and the celestial, the profound and the photo.

Her creativity is most likely no less inspired and evolutionary as the feelings she puts into the creation. Maloe is inspired most vividly by paintings, music, movies, and life in all its details and wraps. Her orientation and organizational mess lead to pieces that are passionate as well as polished to the bone, spiritual as well as sincere.

Fortunately for me, I have been able of sharing part of Maloe’s creative process and see the emotion and stories behind the creation. Her work is an unforgettable impression which personality wakes up emotions that have no words.

I invite you to enter into her world where indeed art is not merely a reflection of the self but rather a portal between two worlds – the celestial and the terrestrial.

Etamae: The pursuit of creation and innovation is again and again a source of joy

It is my great pleasure to introduce Etamae as the featured artist of Souland Gallery because her unlimited curiosity and the love for art are defining her unique career. It is my great pleasure to introduce you into her world of friendship, trust and inspiration we as a friend and a business partner.

Etamae Profile

Etamae enters this platform with an exploring attitude towards her art as does Second life offer, with countless possibilities. Flesh Revisited, exhibited earlier at the Kondor Art Gallery, gave a new meaning when viewed under the PBR materials and projectors here, giving a serious enhanced perception to the viewer.

Etamae is a complete experimental person as he looks forward to experiencing new ideas. Not every time do they get a positive result out of an experiment; but for her, the charm is in the experiment. Every try regardless of whether she comes up with a success story or discards an idea; she is happy and that charges her creativity.

She is completely digital and uses equal measures a combination of both free and paid art software. From there she transfers her creations to Second Life where she adds scripts, textures and other finalizing aspects that turns them into multi sensory experiences. Such a strict procedure is explained with her passion towards Second Life product and desire to create notable objects that viewers will appreciate.

Reading through Etamae’s activities it does not end here. Upcoming works are the combination of real life photography with her own vision and trying to make people getting lost in her work. She also has decided to deepen herself into the program called Blender to practice with a different set of techniques together with her partner in crime.

So for Etamae, art means being grateful, trying things and being over the moon. She has no rules to follow; she lets her interest do the work while embracing what does not serve her and celebrating the process. This is why her work is so interesting; she does not simulate being interested in her work, she is.

It is with great honor to present Etamae’s art work at Souland Gallery is as mere experimental kind which is only prove that anything is possible in art.

Bamboo Barnes: Retrospective Collection 2023/2024

Established in Second Life in 2007 at West Coast Sim, Souland Gallery is now glad to introduce Retrospective Collection 2023/2024 by Bamboo Barnes, the native and self-taught digital artist behind so many emotional pieces. This exhibition of spectacular art is very intimate and shares experiences and moments from the past two years with her define works with struggles and accomplishments.

Bamboo Barnes

As for Bamboo, this has been a painful year of fighting for creativity and invention, but she couldn’t find any in 2024. However, one can see that these struggles became the source that helped her find herself back as a designer behind pieces that recall origin moments and the Inner Child’s exploration of the darkness and light of the soul. This collection is the true embodiment of strength, development and progression of her creative work.

From her first avatar screenshots in 2011, the artist’s path of development has been presented in the process of transformation. One of such events that happened in 2013, was her first acquaintance with 3D installation art, which influenced the further direction of her creative path and made her search for further opportunities into the existence of the Second Life’s metaverse. Her work is powerful, focused on the essence of emotions, free from any narrative and easy to accept on an intimate basis.

The Retrospective Collection 2023/2024 reflects memories and the present, their achievements and failures in an artistic message. Bamboo also goes by the credo of her work as “not incomplete but unfinished – it is as if it is left in the middle of life.”

Bamboo would like to take this opportunity to thank Hans Goosson for his support over the years and also the repetitive 3D installation artists and gallery curators for their boundless tolerance and inspiration. Their support and intelligence have played a huge role in her ability to remain active in Second Life artistic scene.

Come to Souland Gallery and learn that art, like life, is a process of a constant search and come forward and join us to celebrate Bamboo Barnes ‘ art triumph over the adversities of life.

Mareea Farrasco: Pas de Deux (Love Stories)

Pas de Deux (Love Stories) is available from the Souland Gallery and is a beautiful, emotional collection by Mareea Farrasco. Mareea is both a great Second Life photographer and the curator of one of the most popular galleries IMAGO Art Gallery The theme of the project is the subject of love in its different forms, and twelve stunning images will reflect Mareea’s inspiration.

Mareea Profile

This set was designed with the help of artificial intelligence and then carefully polished in Photoshop, so that various themes would be united by fashionable painting. Starting from the carefree spirit of budding romance, up to the unconditional love of a mother, from the long years that made couple’s love strong, to the happy few minutes of the unsuspecting bride-to-be, each of the works tells a story that connects to the audience’s emotions.

In Pas de Deux, Mareea also continues with her predominate theme of capturing the genuine experience of the human soul wherever it maybe through the usage of pastel to create delicate shades associated with the sweetness of life, but with contrasts to depict the dark side of the human condition. What Hatoum achieves within the thematic unity of the novel is a universal and autobiographical view to invite the readers into love through an artistic prism.

Mareea is the enthusiastic Second Life photographer that shoots portraits, landscapes, abstract and story shots. Still, all her images share the focus on the simplicity of emotions captured and the nostalgic pastelnes of the pictures. Over the course of the last few years, Mareea has been one of the first artists to incorporate the experimental approach into creating AI-driven Midjourney and combining technologies with artistry.

Through curating of IMAGO Second Life Art Gallery Mareea has developed active art and culture in Second Life, helps many talented artists to show their creations and develops her own-call as artist. We can now also consider each picture that Mareea makes in Second Life as another step toward answering these questions as she constructs her identity in the colourful, noisy and fantastical world of Second Life.

Come and be our guest at the Souland Gallery to witness Pas de Deux (Love Stories)- An advocacy of the many-faceted facet of love.

Carelyna: Soul Frames

Souland Gallery is proud to present Soul Frames by the amazingly talented Carelyna, the artist that leaves no one indifferent. Born in Bulgaria, Carelyna gained fame for her ability to create something halfway between a photograph and a painting where every picture looks like it has been painted and contains a spectacular, texture-rich sensation and hue.

Carelyna

Having an opportunity to grow near the wonderful view of the sea and developing painting in oils, Carelyna used to dream about an art life which was revived by the opportunity to create in Second Life . With the current works that are full of inspirations created with the help of digital art, she shares how she works rather instinctively, and most of the ideas are not pre-conceived. Her work is a therapy in which drawing brings her a joy that is coming from discovery of the new worlds and moments she catches in her work.

Constructively, Soul Frames is an intimate end product characterized by its combination of architectural and antique styles, the general theme being the personal experiences that motivated the artist when putting together her art masterpieces. Each picture suggests that the observer gets closer to the moment—innovative angles reflected through digital techniques reminiscent of classic approaches.

Carelyna´s stunning talent known as the photopainter, apart from being the owner and director of ArtCare Gallery established in 2014. Her gallery has for example over the years been hosting annual exhibitions for recognized artists and new talents in second life. She has been described in many ways with many coming to treat her as their role model as they appreciate the encouragement she gives them while pursuing their talents.

However, it would be remiss not to mention that apart from curating exhibitions Carelyna performs as a DJ astounding participants of numerous art vernissages and events. Her expertise of synchronizing music with photographs helps the viewers get an impression of different textures.

Soul Frames was made especially to remain an anthological work, an anthology of her polyphonic journey and of the polyphonic of her souls to creativity.

Welcome everyone to join us and watch the Soul Frames at the Souland Gallery performance as well as consider the elegant creations of Carelyna.

Chiara (Ebony Goldrosen): Landscapes and More

Souland Gallery is pleased to offer a gallery of photos by a dedicated SL photographer Chiara, whose captures Second Life landscapes at their best. It’s not merely the result of reality-based SL photography but also an artist whose work in Second Life reflects true inspiration with an added emphasis on reality and things naturally available in SL.

Chiara 2

She has some of her photo´s, like Candles and the more enigmatic Harlekin, and beautiful landscapes, and other works in her collection. Both works provide the viewer with a chance to enter the world of light and shadows and detailed beauty; and all of the images give an idea of how much time and effort Chiara dedicated to finding the perfect settings for the images within SL without using any external applications or editing tools.

Photography has been Chiara’s passion for years in real life and in the second life even in recent weeks. Her leisure activity enabled her to make the mundane world more artistic despite being not a professional herself. In SL, she does the same, but is very careful, and uses only in-world tools to pose and position herself for those incredible pictures she takes.

Chiara is also the West End Gallery in Austin; she encourages and displays artwork in the gallery. Now, at the Souland Gallery she shows her own works in a words describing it as a ‘wonderful chance’ and a ‘great spot’ to meet the people interested in art she has to offer.

Visit art with passion and join Chiara in her landscapes and more than that. Let her passion and unIntellectual creativity take you to the serenity and the majesty.

Smilla Fredriksson: Landscapes and Moments of Magic

It is the great pleasure that the Souland Gallery presents the work of Smilla Fredriksson an SL photographer who has been experimenting the virtual world since 2007. Her showcased collection makes the ordinary aesthetics of the landscapes and the main charm of murals, which illustrate the moments of everyday life, awesome.

4 Smilla Fredriksson

Smilla has always been interested in art starting from her childhood she has been involved in drawing, sculpting music, and even taking photographs. It was only natural for her Second Life to lead her to the art of SL photography as her main form of art. Smilla describes herself as an impulsive artist letting inspiration lead her throughout the creations, without strictly following a concept.

Her work more often than not, brings pride to fragments or the ‘lesser’ observed aspects of everyday life. She can introduce an image and each time tell a story, which can be complemented by a song to help express an emotion she wishes to convey. Smilla’s mission is simple yet profound: to make people smile and encourage them to look at it when they’ll have a smile on their faces.

With this kind of suggestion from her friend and fellow artist named Mareea Farrasco, Smilla’s art has been featured in some exhibitions such as the IMAGO Art Gallery. Now, she continues her gift to the Souland Gallery, showcasing a range of some of her favorite pieces.

Every single picture makes you stop for a second and just be there and exist. Having filled her heart with the enchantment of SL and armed with a steady hand Smilla developed a collection that resonates with her audience.

I encourage you to go to Souland Gallery and look at Smilla Fredriksson’s landscapes so you may be taken to an awe-inspiring sphere and happy smiles.

Hadiya Draper: Abstract Narratives and Digital Exploration

We are honored at the Souland Gallery to showcase such talent in our featured artist; Hadiya Draper has compiled a breathtaking collection of photography that will take the audience through abstract expressionism and digital artisanship. Every one of them demonstrates that she is very passionate about experimentation and combining colors, topics, and concepts into discourses.

Hadiya Headshot 07Dec2024

Taking her art to the next level, the work of Hadiya advances towards abstract and existentialistic area, where an artwork is an object for reader’s reflection. Using inspiration from both traditional and digital artists, the natural world, and concept art her art pieces cover landscapes, abstraction, generative AI, and the feminine form.

Out of passion Hadiya says, “I first come up with a concept and then I flow with the creativity.” It is not uncommon then for the end product to be an indication of that particular day mood, feelings, and self. Her work is profound as an individualist statement but tossed with a common string that lets every person see herself or himself in her paintings.

Hadiya enjoys a strong social presence in the Second Life art scene and has been featured in article features and awarded major awards in digital art. Alternatively, her artistic voice emerges as a vivid account of the strength of illustrations as the ways of telling a story.

The photographs at the Souland Gallery by Hadiya are amazing: each of the pieces embodies her desire and persistence as an artist. I find that her work is centered on the processes used to create art and the moods that come from it, combined with a level of forms and ideas.

It is a fabulous and at the same time quite surreal to follow Hadiya Draper’s photography and watch one creative process that is encouraging to contemplate and appreciate the artistry of free-creation unbound.

Malou Inglewood (malou.paulino)

Malou Inglewood is a gifted photographer and traveler in real life who joined Second Life in 2008. She loves the world as it is, which manifests in presenting some beautiful landscapes and enthralling moments one can capture on the camera. Never missing an opportunity to marvel at beauty and capture it, Malou ensured she explored this part of the Sims in order to find beautiful places and capture them.

Malou

Despite downplaying herself as rather shy, her pictures tell a different story entirely. In each of her pieces, it becomes clear that she also has a very private self, encouraging people to take the time to admire the detail she lovingly captures. Overall, Malou has managed the play between Second Life and the stillness of the world she implores in her photos.

Malou also plans to broaden her art even more, with healthy dreams of transitioning to nude photography but in a sensual, classy and professional way.

Malou are exhibiting her art at SoWal Gallery currently she is happy to be among the artists who display their art and inspire others. Her appearance in Souland Gallery also shows how much she loves documenting beauty in the world and how much she has wanted to reach out other people through her photographs.

Callie Hasting: A Journey Through Digital Art

And as the Souland Gallery, it is our deep honor to present you Callie Hastings – a genuine artist who set her course through the world of digital art ten years ago. This is to say that, Callie’s work directly reflects her passion, strength and process of working.

calliepink

Callie not only contributes her art to Second Life but has had the pleasure of designing book covers in real life and creating a vast amount of artwork that the audience in Second Life and beyond loves and treasures. Callie’s process seems incredibly personal, and she doesn’t follow a set process, but rather, feelings and music. Every picture that the lady presents may be described as having one or several narratives, which when compounded by the mood she is in, and the object(s) that shape them, come alive.

Art for Callie is not an occupation, but a feeling and an emotion with which she wants to embrace people. This is the main reason her work is so engaging, it is because she shares profound experiences that come in form of moments and feelings. Some pieces may require days, and sometimes it only takes several hours to give form to what she wants to say but each one has her flavor imprinted on it.

While Callie goes further in her quest, her corner at the Souland Gallery presents an idea of opportunities and passion that is endless and love for her work that is definitely palpable. We look forward to seeing her complete range and encourage everyone to get lost into the world she created.

We invite you to enter the world of Callie Hastings at the Souland Gallery.

Catherine Nikolaidis: The Soulful Lens of Black & White Photography

I feel very proud, both as a PR person and as a fan, to introduce the amazing Catherine Nikolaidis. Her stunning black-and-white photos turn simple things into powerful, emotional pieces of art. Catherine is more than just a photographer; she’s someone who tells stories through feelings, beauty, and hidden truths, turning moments into lasting works of art.

Cat

Catherine’s way of creating is natural and full of inspiration, influenced by music, feelings, and light. A single line of a song or a quick flash of light can spark her creativity, helping her make images that show love, dreams, and the deep emotions we all feel. Her belief, “Be Free,” reflects the spirit of her work: art as a way to set the soul free.

In her work, Catherine shows us the beauty of opposites—bright and dark, quiet and active, love and desire. Her art is meant to be felt, not just understood, and it touches people deeply with a grace that’s hard to describe.

Right now, Catherine is on vacation, but her exhibit at the Souland Gallery is waiting for her to come back. Then, it will be filled with her stunning black-and-white pieces. People can expect a special experience that shows her one-of-a-kind style—a mix of simple beauty and meaningful depth. This comes from her belief that art is about freedom, connecting with others, and helping us understand each other better.

We are excited to welcome her and see her gallery room. In the meantime, I warmly invite you to join me in celebrating Catherine Nikolaidis, an artist who shows us that art is not just something we look at—it’s something we experience.

Julana Allen: The Soul Behind Souland Gallery

I am very proud and truly admire Julana Allen, the talented artist and co-founder of Souland Gallery. Julana’s life story shows strength, imagination, and strong feelings—it’s a journey that turns personal healing into art that deeply affects people.

Julana

As a skilled digital artist, Julana uses her passion for photography, AI, and editing to make art that strongly connects with emotions. Her work encourages people to stop and feel the emotions in every part of her pieces. Julana says, “I want to create pictures that make you stop for a moment and feel something, or even just bring a smile,” and this idea shines through in all her beautiful artwork.

Since joining Second Life in 2007, Julana has been amazed by the endless creative possibilities of the virtual world. After going through a tough time with illness, she started painting with acrylics in real life as a way to heal, which led her to explore digital art. Every artwork she creates is a reminder of her healing journey, filled with emotions that touch people deeply.

As a co-creator of the Souland Gallery, Julana, together with her partner of 17 years, Logan Allen, has built a special place for artists to share their work. Their strong relationship, built on shared dreams and challenges, is the base of this unique space. Logan’s constant support and teamwork have been key to making the gallery a lively and welcoming community.

She has built a place where creative people can share their work and express themselves. As the Gallery Manager and PR person, I feel proud to help Julana make her ideas a reality. Her appreciation for my hard work and my role in promoting the gallery and its artists motivates me every day.

Julana’s digital artwork, currently on display at the Souland Gallery, is not just a group of pictures. It’s a chance to connect with the beauty, meaning, and feelings she puts into her creations.

We welcome you to visit the Souland Gallery and enjoy the art of Julana Allen. Here, creativity, love, and strength come together to create a unique and special space.

A Journey Through Alienation

Adwehe, an artist known for capturing the essence of global socio-political dynamics, explores themes such as the upheaval in Western political movements, persistent global conflicts, and the dramatic evolution of social norms in this collection. Her works offer a heartfelt response to these overwhelming changes, reflecting the sense of alienation and disconnection that many feel in these turbulent times.

A Vibrant and Reflective Exhibition

Visitors to Nitroglobus can expect a presentation that not only highlights Adwehe’s multifaceted talent but also encourages deep reflection on the current state of the world. The exhibition is an invitation to engage with the challenges of modernity through a prism of vibrant colors and personal interpretations.

The Artist’s Vision

Adwehe describes her exhibition as an attempt to explore the darker sides of modern technology. Despite its benefits, social media and artificial intelligence cast growing shadows over society, leading to division, destabilization, exploitation, and alienation. The artist also expresses her own sense of estrangement amidst the massive daily production of images, using Second Life and EEP sky options to slowly delve into these feelings.

Rebirth in Colors

In a world that often favors black and white over nuance and complexity, Adwehe aspires to be reborn in vibrant colors. Her art transforms shades of gray into explosions of color, offering a new perspective on contemporary stories.

Biography of the Artist: Adwehe

Adwehe is a versatile artist in unstable media, sound explorer, painter, and photographer. Her philosophy is based on the idea that “all is process,” currently exploring architecture. In her art, Adwehe combines lines, light, and shadows with strong colors to create depth and perspective, expanding the dimensions of the exhibition space through primarily abstract and animated works.

In the virtual world of Second Life, Adwehe experiments with different art forms including painting, photography, and immersive multimedia installations. Recently, she discovered sound design using hardware synthesizers to create unique musical moods. Her long-term goal is to develop interactive immersive installations that integrate all her artistic discoveries.

Influenced by kinetic and light art, minimalism, and color field painting, Adwehe mixes textures from her traditional real-life drawings with acrylic and oil paintings both inside and outside Second Life to achieve abstract and figurative patterns, moods, and motions.

Adwehe has exhibited her works in numerous virtual galleries including Maison D’Aneli, Campbell Coast Artists Village, and Burn2. Her ability to transform dreams into virtual reality makes Second Life the ideal platform to realize her unique artistic vision.
