Valentine’s Day in Second Life: Shop & Hop Event and much more!

Hello, guys!

Are you ready for Valentine’s day? I am ready, especially this year, that I have a partner, yay. I am just kidding!

Like every year, you will not want to miss two critical events:
#1: The return of Isle of View, the annual Shop & Hop Event and
#2: The Dunk-A-Linden & Hug-A-Linden Event.

The Isle of View is the annual tribute to all-things-romantic via four regions filled with forested walks, love nooks, and romantic swan boat rides.
As you can read by yourself on The Featured News in the Second Life Community section, this year, there are several updated Mesh and Windlight enhancements, improvements to the Swan Ride, and even some redesigned and new gifts!

The first place I suggest you visit, guys, is the Love Pavillon gift kiosks to browse through a variety of gift selection includes several new options. For example, heart lollipops and balloons, an adorable teddy bear, a chocolate box with rings, cutesy cupcakes, love lanterns, and, of course, romantic roses.

The Isle of View will be open to the public starting from February 6th until February, 23th.
During this period, you will get access to the four regions dedicated to this vast annual shopping event, with over 80 from your favorite designers!
You can find all the details on my blog; the link is in the description of this video.

Go around, take photos, and don’t forget to publish your pics on the Shop & Hop Flickr group also!

Finally, are you feeling “some way” about the Lindens? Show your love (or friendly aggression) for the makers of Second Life at the annual Dunk-A-Linden&Hug-A-Linden Event, held on February 14th from noon until 2 pm slt.

Just another reminder: in SL Destinations, you can find several locations dedicated to Valentine’s Day.
All the details and SLurl are on my blog.

Don’t also forget to follow “Love made in SL” the mini-series that talks about the true story of a couple who met in SL before finding true love in the physical world.

I do hope you will explore Isle of View, guys; it’s a vast and essential annual shopping event!

AvatarBook.org, the Social Network for Second Life’s avatars

Hello guys,

Just a question: do you have a Facebook account? And if yes, have you ever seen removed your post and image because of a report?

Let me clarify: if someone posts something against Facebook TOS, it is normal that FB removed his post. However, sometimes and not rarely, FB removes posts just because they are from an avatar and not a real person.

Why? I think it’s because Facebook was born like a social platform for people who want to stay connected in their real life. Facebook tolerates Second Life avatars, but it for sure, prefers real profiles. In the recent past, Facebook started a war against false profiles and, and began to consider Second life avatars “fake” just because the profile’s name wasn’t the real one. In my experience, I have been often reported by someone’s Facebook account because of my name, and, for this reason, I had to put the real one (and also send my identity card to FB).

So, having a specific social network thought for Second Life users would be great.

Well, this social network exists, and it’s also great! Don’t you believe me? Let’s start a tour together!

The Social Media Network thought for SL users is AvatarBook.org, and you can find the link on the description of this video.

The first goal of this Social Media is that you can log in also with your Facebook account, so you have easy access to it.

AvatarBook was born in 2014, and its theme is responsive so that you can use it on mobile also without a specific app. However, I contacted Virtual Nomad (AB Staff), and he told me an app is in the program even he can’t be more specific about the release date.

I like a lot this Social Media because it’s rationally organized and it’s easy to find what you are looking for.

As you see on the left, you have the chance to have access to the section “add new” that you will use for most of your time.

In the “add new” section you find:

  • (add a new) group
  • (add a new) photo
  • (add a new) video
  • (add a new) discussion (in the forum section you chose)
  • (add a new) event

Under the “add new” section, you can find the recent photos published from users (and you can also choose the top-rated ones).

In the Announces section, you can see some exciting gadget and info from the Avatar Book Staff, namely:

  • Get your free Avatarbook gadgets from the Marketplace
  • Join an official Avatarbook inworld group

In the toolbar above, you can see other relevant links:

  • Home: it’s like the “Facebook Home,” so you can give a quick look to your’ friend’s posts.
  • My Dashboard: similar to the “Facebook Dashboard,” you can find your publications and so posts, videos, images, etc.
  • Forum. Yay, forum! This section is excellent, and it’s my favorite one. You can get access to all the forum’s parts in a click and share your opinions, information, questions in a fast and easy way!
  • Photos: another section well-done. You can explore the crew’s images subdivided into three parts: latest|top rated|most discussed, and you can also explore your photos (that you’ve published until now).
  • Videos: the crew’s video subdivided in featured|latest|top rated|browse by tag|
  • Events: all the crew’s events subdivided in invitation|my events|past|upcoming.
  • Polls: This is another excellent section where you can post a poll and answer the other’s surveys. A fantastic interaction’s way!
  • Groups: here are the crew’s groups subdivided in the most popular|latests|my groups|invitations.

In the right above angle, you have four critical icons:

  • Messages: where you can see all your messages and send a message.
  • Notifications: this part is exactly like Facebook notifications.
  • Your account settings: where you can see and edit your profile, set your preferences, see your mail notifications, and your privacy settings.
  • Your Icon Photo: to get fats access to your profile and timeline. It’s your published timeline, exactly like Facebook.

You can easily add your partner and family members; AB is user-friendly for sure!

I strongly suggest to use AvatarBook since it’s thought for Second Life’s users, it’s user-friendly, and you can get fast access also from your mobile since it’s responsive themed.

Black and Orange Instagram Style for your Second Life Pics

I’ve been getting into Instagram photography lately. One of the most exciting aspects of this social media dedicated to photography is the importance it gives to the photographic theme.

Not all those who share their images on Instagram propose a specific set of colors, however those who professionally use Instagram or want to have a well-kept bulletin board, choose and use a particular preset of colors.

Among the presets that are more fashionable lately, there is the exaltation of black and orange colors.
I have created a preset that can be downloaded and freely used by anyone using Photoshop to process their images.
It is a color combination that you can import directly into your raw camera filter and customize it as you want.
Here is the link to download it and instructions to use it!
Let me know in a comment what you think about it and share with me the photos you have taken using my preset.
I will share them on my socials!

What Second Life means to me

Hi, guys,

A few days ago, I found myself thinking about why SL has been grabbing my attention for so long.
Have you ever thought about it? Why do you login to SL, what attracts you most? And what are the activities you do on SL? Who are your friends? Who is your partner?
In this video, I tell myself, I share my story with you, but I would also like you to show your SL with me. You can do this in a comment on the video or my blog.

If you like my videos, don’t forget to subscribe to my channel, activate the notification bell, and put a like below.

I joined SL 8 years ago after experiencing Opensim for a few years. In particular, I came from Osgrid, which still exists today, and which allowed me to have sims without paying anything. All I needed was a server. For an Osgrid malfunction, I suddenly lost everything, including my avatar. You can imagine my frustration after years of hard work.

So I chose to enter SL where, coming from Osgrid, everything seemed natural (a piece of cake, in short…). Actually, but I found out later, it’s not precisely in this way: even SL is complicated if you want to work earnestly, for example, the creators who sell (and earn) on the Linden platform do.

As I said, I came from a disagreeable experience: I had lost years of work on Osgrid (it was the crash of 2012).

At first, I explored the locations and shops: it was a new world, although not so different from Osgrid. Exploring I realized that the art in SL was exciting, and the creativity of the people was impressive! I wanted to be part of the art world, but not as an “artist.” I tried to promote it, you know.
I immediately thought of a blog where I could share my virtual travels.
So Virtuality was born, and it still exists today.

Of Second Life, I appreciate art, but also the creation of locations, environments. Lately, I especially appreciate this last aspect, to the point of creating The Cold Rose with Van.

My Post about The Cold Rose

I wondered why every day, even if for a short time, I enter SL and I want to do things. I think it’s because SL is like a blank canvas that gives you all the tools to fill it. How you fill it depends on you, of course. But at any moment you have the chance to erase what you have done if you don’t like it, and start again! And this is exciting!

Besides art and location exploration, I like listening to live music. I have met musicians and singers of great value who shared their talent for the sheer pleasure of it. Some of them can even make money, and that’s great news!

Finally, in the last year, I have dedicated myself to photography. The aspect that intrigues me the most is the creative one, so I love making photographic compositions in Photoshop. Mixing real images with images captured in SL is exciting, especially because SL is becoming more and more realistic, and this union of real and virtual is more and more credible!

Ok, I’ve bored you enough talking about me! I invite you to tell me about you, your story, your experiences, and impressions. Why do you enter SL? What attracts you most?
Say it in a comment!

See you in the next video. Bye!

Caly Applewhite exhibits at DiXmiX Art Gallery in Second Life

Calypso Applewhite inaugurated yesterday, Saturday, January 18th, since 1 PM SLT, her new photo exhibition at the DiXmiX Art Gallery, owned and curated by Dixmix Source.
Due to various commitments, I was not able to be present at the opening, so I reserved an hour to visit it today, and I am pleased with my choice.
I have appreciated Caly for a long time, and, looking at the new photographs, I realize that she is continuing her “photographic experimentation.”

The female avatar, often accompanied by face masks, seems to be a recurring element of the artist’s images.
If it were not for the (often) sad look of the avatar, I would say that masks give magnificence to the woman. However, the sad eyes in some images and the lost faces in others, do not provide me glory, but the idea of an “imposed” and not wanted role.
The mask would represent the role (could it be a social role?) and the face (sad or lost) of the woman her sense of helplessness in the face of such imposition.
I don’t know if Caly meant such an interpretation, I express the idea that this contrast (between the woman’s expression and her mask) arouses me.
The predominance of black and white, where black plays the primary role, also helps to convey the feeling I have just described.

I admire Calypso’s use of light: often, all she needs is a single point of view to place it to give depth to the scene.
I recommend a visit to the Calypso Applewhite exhibition, which will be open until February 15th.

Me at DiXmiX Art Gallery visiting Caly’s exhibition

Fortunately, I met DiXmiX on the occasion of my visit that kindly gave me the calendar of upcoming exhibitions and openings.
Here it is for you!

  • Feb 1st – Moki Yuitza: Hyper Virtual (In the womb)
  • Feb 8th – S т σ я i є’ S Helendale (glitterprincess.destiny)
  • Feb 15th – Harbor Galaxy (Debbi Lombardo in flickr)
  • Feb 22th -Duna Gant

DiXmiX also explains to me that the theme for January is “almost black and white,” while the theme for February will be “painting spirit.”
Moreover, in March, Paola Mills will show her conceptual images, and in April, Melusina Parkin will show her exquisite minimalism.
