What we talk about when we talk about Bruno

Contrary to what the song implies, everyone’s talking about “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.” The song from Encanto, Disney’s latest animated musical, has broken records and become an absolutely infectious earworm. True to Disney tradition, there is a multilingual version of the song — but the catchy lyrics from Lin-Manuel Miranda aren’t the only memorable thing about the song.

One of the big differences between Encanto and previous Disney musicals is the use of choreography within the movie, something directors Byron Howard and Jared Bush wanted to do in order to “evolve the Disney musical.” The filmmakers brought on choreographers to block out the scenes and eventually translated them into the animation. A new video from Disney shows a side-by-side of the real life dancers and the final animated sequence — which is also all the more impressive because it’s done in one take.

Encanto follows a magical family in Colombia, where each of the members is blessed with a miraculous gift — except for plucky Mirabel. When the magic is threatened, Mirabel sets out to save it, diving into family secrets and bonds. The movie premiered in theaters on Nov. 24 and hit Disney Plus on Christmas eve.

MetaHuman, hyper-realistic avatars, and lots of fun!

Have you always wanted to see yourself in the form of a virtual character? Or would you just like to create a hyper-realistic avatar? All this is possible with MetaHuman. As the name suggests, the purpose of this application is to make our avatar human (= realistic).

The application is used directly from the reference site ( https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/metahuman-creator ). At the moment it is possible to obtain early access (therefore before the official release) simply by filling out a form. I had no difficulty getting early access immediately.

We will be able to download the character created in MetaHuman which will already be rigged and ready for use in UnRealEngine , a hyper-realistic 3D world created by the same authors of MetaHuman.

Searching around the web, I found this interesting post in the Second Life Community. It is undeniable that the ability to use such detailed avatars is thrilling. Possible compatibility between Second Life and MetaHuman would be a huge step towards the realization of that metaverse that everyone is talking about lately.

Meanwhile, here is my personal experiment in MetaHuman, an attempt to recreate myself:

Al momento è possibile ottenere un early access (quindi prima del rilascio ufficiale) semplicemente compilando un form. Non ho avuto nessuna difficoltà nell’ottenere immediatamente l’early access.

Potremo scaricare il character creato in MetaHuman che sarà già riggato e pronto per l’uso in UnRealEngine, un mondo 3D iperealistico creato dai medesimi autori di MetaHuman.

Cercando in giro per il web, ho trovato questo interessante post nella Second Life Community. E’ innegabile che la possibilità di utilizzare avatar così dettagliati è elettrizzante. Una eventuale possibile compatibilità tra Second Life e MetaHuman sarebbe un enorme passo avanti verso la realizzazione di quel metaverso di cui tutti ultimamente parlano.

Intanto, ecco il mio personale esperimento in MetaHuman, un tentativo di ricreare me stessa:

The numbers of NFTs

Currently, NFT sales have skyrocketed to $ 10.7 billion in the third quarter of 2021. This boom can also be attributed to COVID-19, which has prompted many people to experience digital differently: a second life. Furthermore, many artists, performers, and musicians – among the categories most affected by the pandemic – found themselves in the situation of reinventing themselves, finding in NFTs a way to earn from their work even remotely.

In fact, NFTs solve basic needs. First of all, giving value to what previously had none: digital art and the rights of creators on it. Secondly, the need for “recognition” (social, economic) of people also in digital spaces (and thanks to digital assets) is currently not satisfied.

To satisfy this need, dozens of metaverses have been created, where users can use and show off their NFTs. Facebook’s announcement of wanting to launch its own metaverse is a clear sign that the road to virtual worlds in which to use one’s NFTs is now open.

But what is a metaverse? The canonical definition is a three-dimensional space where individuals can move, share and interact through personalized avatars. In truth, there is no univocal definition. Still, it generically indicates a virtual place where you can hang out with other people, interact, invest and create your own character in the image and likeness of what you want to be.

The advantages of NFTs: why create and sell them?

NFTs are a godsend for brands and creators if you can say so. A whole new billionaire market born out of nothing in recent years: the earning possibilities are practically unlimited, and the costs for companies and individuals are minimal.

The application fields are equally infinite: everything can be sold as NFT, just create a digital copy of what you want to sell, and that’s it. You can tokenize individual products or digital works of art or create collections of thousands of objects.

Furthermore, NFTs incorporate all the classic advantages of the blockchain, namely decentralization, disintermediation, immutability of the register, traceability, and verifiability of its contents, movements, and transfers.

Another advantage is the possibility of earning from second, third, fourth, etc., sales. level: in a nutshell, you are paid back for your rights every time your NFT is resold to a third party. All thanks to the fact that every transfer of ownership is traceable on the blockchain on the blockchain. A continuous revenue stream, unlimited over time.

Too much power to intermediaries

The potential online activities will be as varied as virtually attending a concert, taking an online trip, buying and trying on digital clothes. In addition, within the Metaverse, users will purchase virtual land and other digital assets presumably using cryptocurrencies.

Fashion will also be increasingly rooted in the Metaverse: Generation Z customers will spend more and more time playing online, socializing, and shopping.

Despite being virtual reality, people want their avatars to look their best.

Since 2019 Epic Games (well known as the creators of Unreal Engine & Fortnite) has run the Epic MegaGrants program, a $100 million fund to financially support projects built with Unreal Engine. In 2021 the program awarded grants to 31 XR projects.

Epic recently recapped the complete list of MegaGrant recipients in 2021, comprising a whopping 390 individual projects, each of which received a grant from the program of up to $500,000

Surprise, a new champion!

Zeri is League of Legends’ newest champion. Unlike Riot’s normal reveals, Zeri seemed to show up almost out of the blue with a champion page on the League of Legends website.

Unfortunately, Riot hasn’t announced exactly what Zeri’s abilities do just yet, but her champion page does say that she’s a marksman and includes a brief description of her powers:

A headstrong, spirited young woman from Zaun’s working-class, Zeri channels her electric magic to charge herself and her custom-crafted gun. Her volatile power mirrors her emotions, its sparks reflecting her lightning-fast approach to life. Deeply compassionate toward others, Zeri carries the love of her family and her home into every fight. Though her eagerness to help can sometimes backfire, Zeri believes one truth to be certain: stand up for your community, and it will stand up with you.

This description makes it sound like Zeri will be a zippy, electricity themed ADC with quick attacks and movement. Of course, we’ll have to wait until Riot shows off her whole kit to know exactly what she can do.

Zeri’s champion page also reveals that she is from Zaun and her only related champion at the moment is Ekko. While there’s no way to know for sure, this certainly seems to hint that she could be an important part of Arcane season 2, or at least a part of Ekko’s life in Zaun with the family of misfits he protects and leads.

There’s no word yet on when Zeri will be released, but her kit should be revealed sometime in the next few days and arrive in the full game a couple of weeks later.
