In today’s art world, the idea of the lone creator is common. Many artists work alone, tucked away in their studios and separated by digital gaps. However, true collaboration is a rare and important act. We often hear that modern art can be a lonely pursuit. Yet, collaboration has deep roots in art history. The exchange of ideas, the master-apprentice relationship, and shared influences were once essential to artistic greatness.
It is this historical spirit of shared effort that artists Kymothoee Waters and Julana Allen are rediscovering and revitalizing with their latest joint project, the “The Outer Garden” Photography Exhibition at the Kondor Art Center.
Kymothoee and Julana are familiar with working together. Their artistic bond is characterized not by complete agreement but by the dynamic tension of true partnership. Their process involves creative cooperation and debate, a fascinating interaction of contrasts as they explore the same or similar themes. Where one photographer sees a shadow, the other might see a burst of light. This dialogue makes their joint work profoundly complex and rewarding. In this project, the two friends are creating what they call their “Second Life workshop”, a digital space where they test, challenge, and refine photographic ideas through two distinct perspectives.

“The Outer Garden” by Kymothoee Waters
The inspiration for this stunning photography exhibition comes from the virtual setting it is named after: The Outer Garden sim. Notably, this sim is a creation of two minds, making it the ideal shared canvas for Waters and Allen. Known for its atmospheric beauty, The Outer Garden is a magical, dreamy place – a landscape many have experienced, but few have truly captured through the artistic eye of a photographer.
The main mission of this exhibition is a poetic act of rediscovery. Julana and Kymothoee aim to view this familiar territory with fresh artistic eyes. They are digging deep to uncover the beauty from their unique perspectives, showcasing how one photographer’s vision can dramatically reshape the shared experience. The result promises to be a breathtaking collection that not only highlights the inherent beauty of the virtual landscape but also emphasizes the profound individuality of these two talented photographers.
