There are times when art goes beyond just being something to look at; it becomes a reflection of our innermost selves. This is the essence of “The one – who is no one”, the latest exhibition by the brilliant artist, Bamboo Barnes, set to open at the Kondor Art Center.

It’s not just about seeing; it’s about feeling, questioning, and discovering a piece of your own truth within her creations. Stepping into Bamboo Barnes world is like emerging from a darkroom into dazzling light. Her art offers a raw glimpse into her creative spirit. It’s a kind of soliloquy a “rambling, soliloquy-like” collection of images that encourages us to look deeper than what we think we understand.

Bamboo doesn’t choose her words carefully; instead, she speaks from “a mysterious black mass at my core, like a thread I’ve kept pulling and unraveling”. This encapsulates her creative journey, a thought that lacks weight yet transforms into a tangible two-dimensional experience.

She doesn’t create to deliver a straightforward message; rather, she allows her images to twist and intertwine, inviting viewers to discover their own interpretations. At the core of this exhibition lies a bold statement about identity. In a time when we’re constantly urged to connect and be acknowledged, Bamboo reminds us that true existence is deeply personal.

“You are you, and no one else”, she asserts, acknowledging this as both a poignant and beautiful reality. Her art engages in a dialogue with the viewer, gently probing our fears and our inner landscapes.

展覧会「The one who is no one」に寄せて

今回またこの素晴らしいギャラリーで展覧会を開くことができ、心から感謝と喜びを覚えています。オーナーのHermes Kondorには、惜しみない助力と励ましをいただき、そしていつも変わらず真の友として接してくださっていることに、深く感謝いたします。

いつものように、私の取りとめもない独白のようなイメージが、もしもあなたに何かを伝えることができるのなら、私が創作に費やした時間は意味あるものだったと思えます。現代という、人々が本能的に「つながり」を求め、自らの存在を認めてもらいたいと感じる時代には、常に優先順位を迫られます。けれどもそれは結局、二次的なことではないでしょうか。自分を捨て、誰かになろうとすることは、自分自身に嘘をつくことにすぎません。あなたはあなただけであり、他の誰でもない。人間の本質は、なお個であり続け、己の感情や思考を守っているのです。それは哀しくもあり、同時に素晴らしい真実でもあります。

私は多くを語る人間ではなく、言葉を丁寧に選んで話すこともあまりしません。考えていないわけではなく、むしろ私の中心には黒い塊のようなものがあり、それは糸を引くように少しずつ解けていく。重さを持たない塊——それが私の思考の二次元的なイメージです。

だから「創作中に何を考えているのか」「作品は何を意味するのか」「何かを伝えるために作っているのか」といった難しい問いに、私はうまく答えることができません。始めるときには、ある言葉やイメージ——あるいは一つの曲を二次元に変換するような漠然とした感覚——があることもありますが、やがてシナプスが絡まり、像は勝手に姿を変えていきます。そこに明確な意図やメッセージがあるのだろうか、と私自身が疑問に思うことさえあります。

私は言葉では語らない。私はイメージで語るのです。私はあなたが誰なのかも、何を考えているのかも知らない。あなたは何を恐れているのか。
あなたはあなた自身でありながら、誰でもない者。私と同じように。
それが現実なのです。
