EtaMae

Where personal joy in creation becomes visual truth.

An abstract photographer and 3D artist mastering virtual and real-world expression through dedicated process.

ABOUT

EtaMae & Jos

EtaMae began their creative journey in the summer of 2018, initially drawn into the world of photography within Second Life. Her early work focused on capturing the stunning creations of celebrated mesh designers like Cherry Manga, Thedea Tammas, Bry Oh, Mistero Hifeng, and Meilo Minotaur, aiming to produce original art from what was already exceptional virtual design.

The Artistic Vision

EtaMae’s style consistently leans towards the abstract, embracing a vibrant mix of both vivid colour and dramatic monochrome. More recently, her artistic process has evolved to include the creation of custom materials and PBR (Physically Based Rendering) techniques as a preferred medium. This virtual foundation is now being complemented by the incorporation of more real-world photography, adding a richly satisfying dimension to her portfolio.

Process and Practice

EtaMae is dedicated to a hands-on, multi-step creative process. Rather than relying on commercial software like Photoshop or text-prompt digital generation, she achieves her unique results by skillfully alternating between several, mostly free art programs. This commitment to a longer, more personal process is central to her artistic integrity. Furthermore, EtaMae is actively expanding her skill-set into 3D creation, working with sculpting programs, including Blender, to design original mesh forms for use, with her art, in Second Life.

The Joy of Creation

For EtaMae, joy lies in creating something that is personally and visually appealing. The positive reception and appreciation from the community, and those who choose to hold a piece of her work in their inventory – is deeply humbling and a profound source of motivation.

About Art Installation

EtaMae’s Narrative and Vision

EtaMae injected a deeply personal narrative into Jos’s powerful architectural form. Inspired by a visit to the Banksy Museum in Barcelona, she was struck by the artist’s unique ability to weave humanity and strong social messages into the fabric of bustling city life.

  • Breathing Life into Structure: After Jos constructed the intricate, futuristic framework, EtaMae took on the crucial role of texturing the entire build, playfully terming the process “breathing life” into the space.
  • Integrated Artwork: Her exhibited works are not mere adornments; they are integrated pieces that convey meaning. EtaMae blended her own real-world photographs with her signature use of PBR materials and Blender to create textural, compelling imagery that perfectly complements the urban landscape. Her photography, a blend of real-world happenings and digital manipulation, provides a mix of texture and message.

A Harmonious Collaboration

The installation, which took around four and a half months to complete, began as EtaMae‘s idea for a Barcelona-inspired exhibit. Jos took this concept and built a magnificent, complex canvas of concrete and metal, featuring impressive scale and detailing, including semi-transparent spiral staircases and inventive architectural features like upside-down buildings.

The resulting experience is one of dynamic exchange and perfect balance, instantly declaring this installation as the work of two dissimilar, yet completely harmonious people. Visitors are encouraged to take their time, sit, and allow the beauty and intricate details of this unique, shared vision to fully sink in.
