Julana Allen: Artist, Curator, and Community Visionary

Souland Gallery: Curator and Community Visionary
Julana Allen is a dynamic force in the Second Life art world, known for her dedication to fostering the careers of fellow artists. Having started her journey in Second Life in 2007, her early admiration for the community’s creativity led her to actively shape the world as an advocate for artists.
The Curatorial Vision
Julana’s extensive experience, which includes serving as a Co-curator on a large SL sim and helping manage various exhibitions, culminated in the founding of Souland Gallery at Moordon with her partner. Her mission is clear: to establish a stable, enduring space for artistic expression.
Community Commitment: As Owner and Curator of Souland Gallery, Julana is most proud that the space currently offers cost-free, permanent exhibition rooms to over twenty-seven talented artists from across the grid. This commitment provides vital, long-term visibility to creators.
Gallery Management: Julana also co-curates the Westend Gallery at Austin Island.
Gratitude: Julana is deeply grateful for the community support that makes Souland Gallery thrive. In particular, her thanks go to Vilolet Boa, who provides continuous encouragement and support to the entire gallery family.
(I, as the PR and Gallery Manager, am privileged to collaborate closely with Julana. My partnership ensures the professional presentation and expansive outreach required to support these wonderful artists in their careers, making her vision a tangible success.)
The Souland Gallery, under Julana’s guidance, is more than just a gallery – it is a community hub built on the belief that art should be accessible and celebrated.
biography
Julana Allen’s connection to art is a deeply personal journey rooted in resilience and emotional expression.
The Creative Journey
The foundation of her art was forged during a period of serious illness in real life, where painting with acrylics became an essential tool for processing feelings and fears. This history instilled a profound understanding of art’s therapeutic power, which she carried into the virtual realm.
Julana is relatively new to the practice of virtual photography, having picked up her camera just over a year ago. Her artistry has evolved rapidly as she seeks to document the beauty of Second Life and the sims created by others.
Process: She is drawn to documenting Second Life through both in-world photography and the use of AI, often subsequently refining all her output through editing programs like Gimp and Fotor.
Aesthetic: She favors images that lean toward softer tones and watercolor effects (as seen in her pieces like ‘NO WORDS NEEDED’ and ‘IDYLL ON THE SHORE’), which gives her work a gentle, emotive quality.
Artistic Goal: Her goal is simple but powerful: to create images that invite you to linger for a moment and convey a feeling or even just a smile.
Julana Allen’s photography is an extension of her commitment to emotional well-being, proving that art is a vital resource for both personal expression and connection.
