Sanctuary

The name Sanctuary holds exceptional historical significance in Second Life because it has maintained its presence throughout the virtual world’s changing environments. The realm emerged in 2008 when Emerald Melbourne designed it as a vampire Queen who brought forth digital wonders from her mind which he described as “brilliant and delightfully unhinged”. For eighteen years the organization operated as a leading historical roleplaying institution which received the Avi-Choice Award in 2016.

Sanctuary had to decide between two options when virtual worlds changed their operations: to vanish from existence or to proceed with development.

The Princess Regent of Sanctuary, Stevie Basevi, reached this crossroads. The borders of this territory contained her heart and all the stories that dedicated players had shared with her. She selected evolution as her path forward. Through its “Story of Progression” transition Sanctuary transformed from a site dedicated to combat and historical roleplay into a dynamic cultural sanctuary that supports various artistic activities including art, photography, dance, and music.
