May 26th, 12pm SLT-There’s a quiet, humming energy in the air of the Michiel Bechir Gallery, a place where nature’s whisper becomes the engine’s thrumming pulse. This is the site of the The Future Is Comin’ On, a stunning new immersive installation by Ilyra Chardin that invites you into a space where the organic and the synthetic have blurred and re-merged to create something entirely new.
Under the stewardship of the Michiel Bechir Gallery at Embrace, the installation is less an observation and more an exploration of an evolved reality. Alongside the visionary central installation by Chardin, the gallery proudly showcases new work by Zia Branner, Geo, and Michiel Bechir.
In the central installation, The Future Is Comin’ On, Ilyra Chardin envisions an uncanny, vital, and completely functional world. Water is gathered from thin air; a circuit board is indistinguishable from a root system’s patient wisdom. A species living here tend a garden which grows directly from them. Chardin explains it as neither a cautionary tale nor an optimistic look at a perfected world, but simply “one possible scenario, already beginning to take root in our own.”
It’s a space you can feel in your bones as you walk through it-and feel in your bones that it beats with a different heart than the ones you know. A sweet, floral DJ-provided ambiance by Toya provides a dreamlike soundtrack for this exploration that, somehow, seems to blossom out of the floral gardens in the exhibit itself, providing an anchor in the etheric sound.
We encourage you to join us for this opening on May 26th, 12pm SLT, to explore a world where nature and machinery exist in symbiosis. What will the future be, now that we’ve stopped thinking of it as discrete entities and have begun searching for what they share?
